I can't really choose ONE favorite book... but currently, I'm just being re-amazed by The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As I watched the movies, I kept thinking "Wow! This is amazing! Nothing can compare to this!" Now I go back and read the books and I'm just stunned by the realization: As good as the movies are, the books are way better. Tolkien was an absolute genius. His style of writing is just pure beauty. He created a world that has enthralled millions. The characters he wrote are accessible and real, and you really watch them grow throughout the books. His action is absolutely spot on. His histories continually blow my mind. I only hope that one day I'm one-tenth as good of a writer as he was.
Like Madison, I can't pick an exact favorite. I have to say that as far as fantasy goes, Tolkien is the king (With C.S. Lewis as a close runner up). And then there's Anne of Green Gables... and then there's Redwall, and the Wingfeather Saga, and Artemis Fowl, and anything by Jane Austin or Charles Dickens... it's not fair! I can't pick a favorite! I can't even pick a favorite author. Rather than list all the books I love (which would take a blog of its own) I'm gonna go with Madison and say that LotR books are a good placeholder for first.
